Earlier this year, I visited Kpasenkpe in northern Ghana with Jeff and Sonia Sachs. The struggles I saw there firsthand have stuck with me… families forced to send their kids away to save them from chronic hunger… clinics clean of any medicine at all. So, I am very glad to see that Andrew Mitchell and the British public are backing their fight with smart aid through the Millennium Villages approach and through Ghana’s Savannah Accelerated Development Authority.
For too long, too many in development have preferred not to admit that sometimes things don’t work… failing to realise that it’s recognising failures that allows us to focus on successes—-and to build on them. This partnership is different… it is a model worth watching closely because it has independent monitoring and evaluation at its heart.
More than three million members of ONE are keen to hear directly from the citizens of Kpasankpe about what they think works, and doesn’t work. This is what should inform us about how we can improve the ways we offer help and partnership.
