Louisa’s Story: A Community Health Worker Connected

Following the birth of her daughter Regina, Debora started bleeding. The Community Health Officer, Louisa, was on call at the local clinic and was able to manage the case with the support of a mobile phone and the telemedicine project in Ghana, which connected her to a doctor at the district hospital for advice.

The Novartis Foundation collaborates with the Earth Institute, Millennium Villages Project, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communications and Ghana Health Service on a groundbreaking telemedicine program in Ghana. The program has extended mobile networks and equipped community health workers with new tools and training that have brought skilled medical care directly to communities in underserved villages.
